Day trip to Guimarães

Guimarães – first crown city of Portugal

The birthplace of Portugal and first seat of the kingdom, the city of Guimarães is a nice destination for a relaxed day trip. The Castle and old town center offer a mix of gothic and medieval look with many corners to discover and a lively cultural and gastronomic offer.

Depending on the time of the year, special events might be taking place.

Getting there:

  1. Take train from Aguda to Porto Campanhã. In Campanhã, take the “Intercidades” (Intercity train – €15/person, 1:30 travel) or the Urban train (€3.80/p, 1:50 travel) to Guimarães.
  2. Once there, visit the town centre, including the castle and the Palace of the Duke of Bragança. Try the traditional pastries and explore the many small places hidden on the side streets.
